PERSPECTIVES / BUSINESS FINANCE

Before you finance your next equipment purchase

Make the asset and repayment assumptions work together.

IN THIS PERSPECTIVE

Start with the operating case

Connect the purchase to a practical need: capacity, quality, productivity or replacement. Describe expected use and the conditions needed to achieve it. Reflect installation and ramp-up rather than assuming immediate full production.

A preparation checklist

  • Quotation, asset specification and expected delivery.
  • Installation, commissioning, duty and related costs.
  • Utilisation and expected cash generation.
  • Current equipment, security and borrowing obligations.
  • Contingency for delay and lower output.

New, used or leased

Condition, useful life, title and valuation affect options. Used equipment may need additional checks. Leasing and borrowing allocate ownership, costs and obligations differently; compare the full arrangements with professional advice.

Include realistic repayment assumptions

Consider business cash flow alongside asset output. Understand fees, deposits, residual payments, insurance and restrictions before committing. A generic calculator cannot establish the right structure.

Prepare for a focused discussion

A short asset description, purpose and project stage are sufficient for an initial enquiry. Share records only through an agreed secure process.
